Butler, who will be sworn into the Senate this week, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Monday morning, hasn't indicated whether she wants to stay in the job.
She will become the first openly lesbian Black senator and the second Black female senator from California (Vice President Kamala Harris was the first).
